Altair, Sequans: Benefits of LTE Cat 0 for Internet of Things can be achieved without Cat 0 chipsets
Fierce Wireless – September 10, 2015 – The debate over what is the best low-power wireless communications protocol technology to power millions and eventually billions of Internet of Things devices heated up at Super Mobility this week. LTE chipset Altair Semiconductor argued that LTE Category 1 chipsets can achieve many of the benefits of the more advanced Category 0 chips without the need for device makers to add in new silicon. Meanwhile, even though competitor Sequans Communications was at CTIA’s Super Mobility conference touting Cat 0, the company conceded that network software upgrades could bring the benefits of Cat 0 without the need for new chips. IoT Evolution World – September 9, 2015 – On-Ramp Wireless on September 9 announced it will relaunch and re-brand as Ingenu, described in the announcement as “Simply Genius.” The new company will incorporate the existing Random Phase Multiple Access technology and networks, and will also begin building the “Machine Network” to be the first nationwide M2M and IoT connectivity network.

Ingenu is using On-Ramp’s Random Phase Multiple Access (RPMA) technology already deployed in private networks to create a public network for machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, which it calls the ‘Machine Network’.

Under the direction of longtime M2M industry veteran and newly appointed CEO, John Horn, Ingenu intends to build a nationwide network using its own proprietary network technology called Random Phase Multiple Access (RPMA) that operates in the 2.4 GHz unlicensed spectrum.
