MeterLinq’s award-winning MeterNet solution powered by the On-Ramp Wireless RPMA Network

PADOVA, Italy and SAN DIEGO – December 2, 2014 – MeterLinq srl, providers of secure telemetry and remote-management infrastructure for smart metering and smart grid services and applications, and On-Ramp Wireless, a leading provider of wireless communications solutions for the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT), announced today that the On-Ramp Wireless RPMA® (Random Phase Multiple Access) network technology will be integrated into MeterLinq’s award-winning MeterNet solution to provide enhanced connectivity for critical utility applications.

MeterLinq’s MeterNet solution is a multi-service network infrastructure designed for meter and sensor reading and management, based on the UNI TS 11291 standard. MeterNet provides high-reliability, enhanced security and coverage in harsh environments with minimal energy usage. MeterNet is currently deployed in water, gas and power distribution networks in various sites throughout Italy. It easily integrates with wired and wireless TLC networks and simplifies the management of AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) for operators and utilities.

“We selected On-Ramp’s RPMA technology in order to provide our customers with secure and reliable communication throughout the network, while reducing their cost of deployment,” said Massimo Cesaro, chief technology officer, MeterLinq.  “The On-Ramp solution was best suited for MeterLinq’s needs as it offered more coverage and capacity than competitive options and was field-proven with industrial internet of things applications throughout the globe. On-Ramp’s RPMA technology gives MeterLinq the freedom to design and deliver innovative smart city applications, meeting the most demanding industry requirements such as those of the gas smart metering market in Italy.”

On-Ramp’s RPMA Network is the first wireless system designed from the ground up for low-power, wide-area, machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. Other wireless technologies for the IoT and M2M communications including cellular, mesh and emerging narrowband long-range technologies lack the reach, capacity and flexibility of the On-Ramp RPMA Network. On-Ramp’s innovative approach leverages industry leading -142 dBm of receive sensitivity, capacity for tens of thousands of devices per infrastructure point and operation in the globally license-free 2.4 GHz IEC band to reach critical assets in urban, rural or even underground environments.

MeterLinq performed rigorous field evaluations with the On-Ramp RPMA network solution and ultimately based its selection on the product’s superior network coverage range and capacity.

“MeterLinq is leading the industry with simplified AMI management products,” said Kevin Hell, president and chief executive officer, On-Ramp Wireless. “We are pleased to be working with MeterLinq to provide enhanced connectivity options utilizing the On-Ramp Wireless RPMA Network – reducing deployment complexity while increasing network reach, capacity and scalability for their operator and utility customers.”
